Opici M. Becton-Richmond is a dedicated educator, advocate, and proud mother from Kinston, NC. Her journey is rooted in perseverance — working third shift while raising three children and pursuing her education online. She earned a Bachelor’s in Human Services with a concentration in Management and a Master’s in Education, balancing work, school, and motherhood with determination and grace.

Her passion for education blossomed through roles as a substitute teacher and instructional assistant, ultimately leading to a full-time teaching position. Opici’s impact in the classroom has earned her numerous accolades, including Instructional Assistant of the Year (2018), Beginning Teacher of the Year (2020), and Teacher of the Year for both 2023–2024 and 2024–2025. She also contributed to her district’s strategic planning, helping shape its vision for the future.

Beyond her classroom achievements, Opici is the summer Director of the STEM program at North Carolina Central University, mentoring future educators. She also serves as Executive Vice President of the University of Phoenix Raleigh-Durham Alumni Chapter, promoting professional development and community engagement. Alongside her wife, Opici is a fierce advocate for student success and educators’ rights, striving to create a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child feels valued and supported.
