“Imani (Faith) ... is the substance of things
hoped for, the
evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
| Imani, a church where, through faith, all can experience and express God's irresistible love through worship, word, oneness, wonder and witness. |

On Sunday, August 29th, Imani MCC officially began a new chapter in its story with the unanimous adoption of the mission statement above. After a process that lasted more than a year, the congregation decided these words capture the mission and express some of the core values of our ministry.
Along with the acceptance of this statement the congregation also took a few other steps of faith during this meeting:
In recognition of this turning point in the life of Imani our interim pastor will begin a sermon series entitled “A New Season” on Sunday, September 12th. In this 10-week sermon series, which concludes with our 13th church anniversary celebration November 14th, we will focus on Imani’s new vision of itself, and its present God-given mission. Join us as we seek to live into being all that God is calling us to be in this day and time!
Mark your calendar for September 25th when NC Pride returns to the Triangle. Once again, we will host a booth at the Festival and walk in the Parade. For more information about Pride Weekend, please see Rev. Phil.

Why is it that the church seems either completely silent, ignorant, resistant or in denial
about the topics of sex and sexuality, and more importantly how our spirituality informs
who we are as sexual beings?! (That's a mouth full, and a mind full!) Continuing
each Wednesday, we will explore this question, and others, as we take a journey
through the church's historical dealings (or lack thereof) with this important topic.
An important part of this study will be our exploration of our own beliefs about spirituality
and sexuality, which will include keeping a personal journal of our findings. If you're
still searching for truth in these matters, here's an opportunity to come to your own
truth. Please join us in this important, and life-changing, study. If you have questions,
please call Rev. Mathews.
Thursday
Night Bible Study in HillsboroughThe Prodigal God is a Bible study experience for churches and small groups. Based on Jesus' Parable of the Prodigal Son, this book, and discussion guide from New York Times bestselling author Timothy Keller illustrate his core message: "The gospel is neither religion nor irreligion, neither morality nor immorality, but something else entirely. Both younger brothers (and sisters) and elder brothers (and sisters) in our church will realize that the only way home is through a prodigal God." Join Imani's Thursday evening, Hillsborough-based Bible study group as they "journey home" through this amazing study beginning beginning on September 2nd. For more information please see Annette. Click here to view a video about the study.
Thursday
Evening Healing Circle in DurhamBeginning on September 9th, our Thursday evening study group will venture into a time of "spiritual recovery." We will begin a 12-week study of Julia Cameron's, The Artist's Way. In this process Julia Cameron offers us what she calls "spiritual chiropractic," which involves "exercises to achieve alignment with the creative energy of the universe." Join us as we come together each Thursday, at 7 pm, through the remainder of 2010 to reconnect with who it is God has created us to be. For more information please call the church office at 919.251.6275.
Our host church, Calvary UMC, will hold a Curbside Sale on Saturday morning, September 11th from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. Tell your friends and neighbors to come shop on 9/11.
Living
the Questions: First Light on the Life of Jesus will be held on Tuesdays at Calvary
UMC this fall beginning September 14th from 6:00 - 8:oo pm. The study
will ponder such questions as: Why did Jesus happen when he happened? Why the confrontations
in Jerusalem? Why then? Why there?
If you are looking for a way to grow your knowledge about Jesus and strengthen your spiritual well-being, plan to be a part of this exciting study led by Calvary's Minister of Christian Formation, Gayle Felton.

Bishop Yvette Flunder, Bishop Wyatt Greenlee, and the Rev. James L. Mills, Jr. will all be present for the East Coast Regional Meeting of the Fellowship that will be held in Winston Salem from September 30th through October 2nd. Discounted lodging is now available if you want to attend. Please see the Fellowship's website for additional details. You may also ask Rev. Phil.
"This
is a summit that every pastor, board member and lay leader should participate in. I wish
that I had the information shared in the "Size Summit" years ago! This summit
was one of the best conferences that I have attended and has already made a tremendous
impact on the ministry that I have the honor of sharing as a Pastor in Metropolitan Community
Church." - Rev Dr. Neil Thomas, MCCLA, Los Angeles, CA.
The next one close to us is October 1-2, 2010, and it is in Washington, DC. See Rev. Phil for details.

Are you brilliant on Facebook? Is MySpace your space? Do you Tweet? Do you have a story about Imani folks you can tell? Do you have action pictures that would be perfect for showing what we do at Imani?
We're looking for a team of people who can help give our website new life. We want to redesign our site and integrate it with social media so we can let everyone know who we are, how much God loves all of us, and how much we care about others. Our new church administrator is an expert webmaster, so you don't need to know how to run a church website. All you need is a passion to spread the Good News.
For more information, talk to Rev. Phil or write office@ImaniMCC.org.

It is time to start planning for the 7th MCC Conference for People of African Descent, our Friends and Allies in Washington, DC, to be held on May 19 - 21, 2011. Visit the website for details (www.mccpad.org) or ask Rev. Phil.
Please join us for worship on Sundays at 2:45 pm at 304 E. Trininty Avenue. Come join us at the table God has prepared for us.
There is room for ALL at this table!
