Good morning. I’ve received a call and a text about the fact there is not a devotional posted for today. I’m sure we could have handled this differently by having something to post that would usher us from the Lenten season into this Holy Week and on to Easter. And yet, there is something quite appropriate about how this has played out....
It’s as if we, like the disciples who walked with Jesus, were receiving daily blessings from the words he spoke to us (through Max Lucado), and then he was snatched away from us. I’d invite you to sit with this idea and the thoughts and feelings it produces in you today, which is Maundy Thursday. And there is more.
Over the next three days, allow Jesus to speak to you from the scriptures. You’re invited to open your Bible to the Gospel of John and read chapters 14 through 19 and hear the voice of Jesus as he prepares his disciples to enter their last days with him and then as he moves into the suffering that comes from living his truth, false accusations based in fear, abandonment by friends, and dying on the cross.
I guess what I’m asking/inviting you to do is to “take out the middle man (or woman)” and let Jesus speak directly to/through you as you journey with him to the cross, the grave and ultimately to resurrection and new life.
Peace,
Rev. Phil
