Well, I’m sitting in my favorite diner/drive-in/dive here in Durham and I’m seeking to be open to Spirit as I try and share something with you that may speak to your heart and spirit in ways that will do for you whatever it is God wants to do for you in this process. Over the past couple of days (since returning from a week of vacation on Tuesday) I’ve been having two particular ideas press in on consciousness, so these are what I’ll share with you at this time.
The transformation of the C-View Street property continues and at every stage the process seems to speak to me on a spiritual level … as anything can and will do, if we’re willing to see with spiritual eyes. Here are a few pics from our project manager. Take a look and see what they say to you.
At this point my understanding is that the building is pretty torn up, or stripped, both inside and out. At this stage there’s not much that can be done in or with this building. I’m reminded of times like this in my life when it seems the essentials (what I have considered the important things in my life) have been stripped away by circumstances, my error or even death. It’s at these times when I wonder what it’s really all about, and yet it’s also at these times when I get a glimpse of the power of God’s love in my life. As Paul put it, “when I am weak then I am strong.” It’s at these times that I’m called to rely on “something inside so strong.”
As we continue forward in the renovation process of the property Imani has acquired, please join me in praying that this place becomes a space where people from all walks of life can come (or not … it could be that something sent out from this place, maybe via the internet will speak to someone deeply) and find the safety to allow Spirit to strip away the unnecessary, unhelpful, unloving, useless stuff (i.e. beliefs, attitudes, patterns, habits and behaviors) that no longer serves our highest good. That’s the place we’re seeking to build at C-View Street. Your prayers will help make this a reality. Thank you!
The second thing I want to share with you at this time is the Sermon/DVD series we will begin this Sunday in worship, “The Blessed Life.” Some of you will be familiar with this title because it comes from a book that was used a few years ago to teach about the blessings that are evidenced through tithing. Over the next four weeks we’re going to explore what it means to live the “blessed life” by living in intimate relationship with God. You want to be “in the house” for this one.
I love what Eugene Peterson does with Luke 12:29-33 in The Message:
"What I'm trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Don't be afraid of missing out. You're my dearest friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom itself.
"Be generous. Give to the poor. Get yourselves a bank that can't go bankrupt, a bank in heaven far from bank robbers, safe from embezzlers, a bank you can bank on. It's obvious, isn't it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being. Luke 12:29-33 (The Message)
Over the next few weeks it’s our intention to open to receiving, to being, the kingdom, the realm, the people God is seeking to be in, through and as us. Join us as we live “The Blessed Life” in every respect!
